Pharm-Olam International Sponsors Seminars on Clinical Trials in Latin American and South Africa

HOUSTON, TEXAS September 18, 2007. Pharm-Olam International Ltd. (POI), a multi-national, full service CRO to pharmaceutical and biotech industries will host complimentary seminars on conducting clinical trials in the Southern hemisphere in Latin America and South Africa.  The seminar will focus on how these regions differ from other research markets and the best strategies for regulatory. The seminars will be held in San Francisco on Oct. 17, La Jolla on Oct. 19, Cambridge, MA on Oct. 22, Princeton on Oct. 23, and King of Prussia on Oct. 24.

Dr. Jorge Fiuza from Buenos Aires, Argentina will present information on Latin America's drug development potential, including site selection, regulatory submission, and the growing market for research across a variety of therapeutic areas. Dr. Fiuza  has over 16 years of experience managing clinical trials throughout Latin America, including management of the phase III trial for Viagra throughout the region.

Frans van Wyk from Pretoria, South Africa will discuss how South Africa's diverse population and mix of public and private research hospitals make the country a strategic location for clinical trials across many therapeutic areas. He will also review South African regulatory, FDA inspections, and the growing need for clinical research . For the last decade Frans has worked in South Africa's rapidly expanding CRO industry, including project management across all phases of clinical trials as well as a position as Director of Logistics for a South African SMO.
